Four Eye Patch Quilting Retreat of May 2002

more of Saturday

Once everyone who was going to be here had arrived, we went on a field trip to thoroughly evaluate my 2 LQS, Thimble Creek in Walnut Creek and Cotton Patch in Lafayette. Susan couldn't make the field trip, since a valued friend of her's with whom she graduated in the MA Program (at UC Berkeley), was being awarded an honorary Distinguished Alumni Award , so she needed to go to the awards ceremony. The rest of us organized a 2 vehicle caravan, as Debbie was having house guests of her own that night and wouldn't be able to go to dinner with us after the field trip.

I had wanted to take pictures of the gang stimulating the local economy, but store policy was for 'no pictures inside the store'. [sigh] Rest assured that several of us found irresistible fabric to purchase.

After the shopping expedition, Teresa, Pigley, Judy, Christine and myself decided that an Italian dinner sounded perfect. Fortunately, there is a plethora of good restaurants in Walnut Creek. Let me assure you that we just about rolled out of the restaurant. We couldn't believe we ate the whole thing!
Judy was amazing! I really believe she expected to produce a project this weekend! Pigley had shown her? told her about? the Yellow Brick Road pattern and she was all fired up to jump into to, as she had 2 baby quilts to make. After exhaustive searching of the LQS, Judy "managed to find" some useable fabrics [grin] for the Yellow Brick Road. Upon our return from dinner and suitable time had elapsed for the dinner to settle, Judy began cutting one of the Yellow Brick Road quilts .. at 10:30pm. The rest of us sat around the table, offering her encouragement, moral support and keeping her on the straight-and-narrow with respect to progress on the quilt. (More truthfully, we were in a stupor and would have been dangerous if we had been wielding rotary cutters!). Like encouraging fans in the stadium, we urged Judy onwards towards victory! Go, Judy, Go! Rah! Rah! Rah!

BTW, Judy finished cutting and sewing all the blocks before we tumbled into bed that night. :-)

Pigley is working on her tumbling block quilt. You can see a jumbled pile of fabric in the foreground, which is Teresa's GFG.
