The Art Deco applique blocks

The original twelve Deco Garden applique blocks can be found here. I wanted a bigger quilt. Reeze offered "bonus blocks" which I used to expand the original layout. These bonus Art Deco blocks can be found here. Not shown are the cornerstone blocks for the border and the blocks I haven't finished.

The original quilt had 6 floral blocks plus a triptych and, of course, the border blocks.

And the border blocks look like this. There are a bazillion of them. I was trying to work on them interspersed with the more interesting flower blocks but it just never worked out. Now that I'm almost at the end of the flower blocks, I *STILL* have most of the border blocks to do. Plus all those gazillion, annoying circles. Sigh. There is no rest for the wicked, ya know?

What are all of these blocks supposed to look like when they are assembled? Here's an EQ mock-up of my king-sized quilt. It'll be about 108"x108" when it's done. I hope I get it quilted in my lifetime. :-)

Sharp eyes will see that the border blocks (as pictured above) are on the top and bottom edges of the mock-up below. Even sharper eyes will notice that the SIDE BORDER blocks are different. Well, there's a story behind that. I was prepping the border blocks (above) and I was on a roll. It was kind of like an assembly line and I was in the zone. I wanted to have them prepped so I could work on them during an up-coming road trip.

You can imagine my immense surprise when I realized that after all the border blocks (above) had been prepped that I only needed half of them. Oh. My. Goodness. (ummm ... those weren't my exact words, but this is a Family-Safe Page, ya know). At that point, I wasn't sure if I had enough of the black background fabric to do the remaining flower blocks PLUS remake the side border blocks. Then I realized that I could remove all the prepped fabric pieces and reuse the background .. but the leaf fabric would be wasted.

Or I could wait until all the flower blocks were done so I could cut more side border block backgrounds .. but then I'd have all the prepped border blocks (above) unneeded.

***OR*** I could simply use all the border blocks (above) that I had already prepped, all the way around the quilt. If you had never seen the mock-up picture, you absolutely would never realize that the side borders should have been different. Being a lazy quilter, that is the solution I am using. All the prepped border blocks will be used and the border will be the same all the way around.

I feel so much better. :-)
